On your marks, get set, spray!
Grab the kids – along with plenty of water – and head to a local park or your back garden for the most intergalactic (and super splashy) fun you can have without leaving the ground.
All you need is some string (the ‘track’), plastic cups (‘rockets’), and water-blasters (‘rocket fuel’). Simple spray bottles are great for little ones. Older kids might prefer something with a little more power! We chose red cups to match the rocket in our second book, but kids can customise theirs however they want.

Create your Great Summer Rocket Race
Step 1
Cut a small whole (about 1cm wide) at the bottom of each plastic cup. Make sure it’s close to an edge for added zip when racing.
Step 2
Print out the decal sheet (see below) and customise those rockets. Most importantly, make sure each rocket has a name. Everyone knows the secret to winning races is a proper good name. In this download, you’ll also find your Race Cards and Fuel labels!
Step 3
Have the kids pick their favourite ‘fuel’. Will Zorgon win the day? (Rumour has it Zorgon makes rockets 0.02% faster. That’s science!) You’ll find the fuel labels in the same downloadable template below. Just glue them to some powerful spray bottles or squirters.
Step 4
Grab a ball of string and head to your garden, or local park. Wrap the string around a tree close to the kids’ height and tie a knot. Important: thread the rocket onto the string before tying it to the other tree. Do the same for another string, leaving a good amount of space between the two.
Step 5
You should have already printed out official Rocket Race Cards for your little pilots to document their ships and chart their progress. Make sure you have them with you to record the results!
Step 6
Race time!
More rockets, more adventure
